Oh heavens, this movie makes me laugh. It’s ridiculous and off the wall and seriously one of my favorite movies ever. Do not watch it with the kids and DEFINITELY don’t watch it on TBS. Watch it as it was meant to be seen, unrated from beginning to end. If you giggled at Talladega Nights, you will howl at Step Brothers.
Written by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay (Funny or Die founder) and John C. Reilly, this is goofball comedy at its finest. This same comedic dream team also brought you the likes of Between Two Ferns, The Landlord, Drunk History, and Anchorman .
The lines are off the chart absurd, but you’ll be quoting them for years. I spent two days tweeting back and forth with a friend only lines from this movie. I could quote 273 of them now, but I don’t want to ruin the storyline for you. Let’s just say after watching this you will get the reference to “so much room for activities” and fancy sauce.
Ferrell and Reilly play two aimless middle-aged losers who are still living at home and forced against their will to become roommates when their parents marry. This is where the hilarity ensues. The chemistry between Ferrell and Reilly is like always, completely unmatched. The acting is spot on. I don’t think there are two other people on earth that could nail these parts any better. But, naturally. In addition, Mary Steenburgen is perfect as the gorgeous, although a bit spineless mother and Richard Jenkins nails the frustrated so freaking over it dad.
Grab yourself a beer or four and treat yourself to a little R + R and laugh your ass off. You deserve it.
